Mabel Jewell

Mabel Friley Jewell, 86, of Harlan, met her Savior face to face on Saturday, February 6, 2010, at her home following a brief illness. Born in Jackson, Kentucky, on March 15, 1923, to Butler and Ida Friley, Mabel had lived most of her adult life in Harlan. She was a former employee of The Laurels, a homemaker and a dearly loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

She was a kind-hearted soul who loved her family and friends with a passion and she was loved by all who knew her. Always ready to share a smile and a meal, she was perpetually happy. Mabel's first love was music and she passed her love and talent down through her family. An accomplished guitarist and singer, Mable sang her way into Glory.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and attended faithfully when her health permitted.

Along with her parents, her husband Bill Jewell and six siblings, Mabel was preceded in death by two sons, Rick and Lynvell Jewell, and a grandson, Kevin Jewell.

Mabel leaves to celebrate her homegoing, seven children: Rita Chasteen and husband Oscar; Wilma Kelly and husband Herb; Herby Jewell and wife Libby; Mike Jewell; Condell Jewell and wife Robin; Ken Jewell and wife Suvilla; Nola Maggard and husband Eugene; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be after 11 am Tuesday with funeral services following at 2 pm at the Harlan Funeral Home. The Reverend Josh Hensley will be presiding.

Interment will take place at the Resthaven Cemetery at Jeff, Kentucky.

Nola I was so sorry to here of Mabel's passing. She sure brought laughter and good humor where ever she went. The last time I talked to her it was about friendship and forgiveness and she will never know the impact that conversation had on me. She told me the #1 rule of true friendship was forgivness and all a person can do is ask someone to forgive them and if they could'nt then God would'nt have forgiveness for them. That conversation helped me to let go of alot of pain. She was a true christain and I will always remember her with love. You all were truly blessed to have her as a mother grandmother and every one she called FRIEND. GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND KNOW YOU ARE IN MY PRAYERS
