Ruth Naomi Wilson, age 94, of Cumberland Gap, TN formerly of Evarts, KY passed away Sunday, April 19 at her daughter’s home in Cumberland Gap, TN. She was born February 17, 1921 in Knoxville, TN. Her family was her greatest passion. She loved her years singing with the Southeast Choir. She cherished her years teaching and becoming guidance counselor at the school of the community she loved so well. She was a lifelong member of the Evarts Congregational United Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by mother, Laura Elizabeth Reed, husband, Damon Hugh Wilson, daughter, Linda Ruth Wilson, granddaughter, Shannon Lynn Marks, and sister, Elizabeth Elliott.
Survivors include daughter, Rita Janice Jones and husband, James Jones of Cumberland Gap, TN, granddaughter, Laura C. Parker and husband, Michael L. Parker, and great grandchildren children Sarah, Emily and Stephen, granddaughter, Alison Marks Seal and great grandchildren, Cody, Olivia, Aiden and Robert Marks, lll.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 21 from 5 to 7PM at the Evarts Congregational United Methodist Church. Funeral will follow at 7PM also at the church with Rev. Michael Pitzer officiating. Burial will be Wednesday, April 22 at 10AM at Resthaven Cemetery with Cody Seal, Michael Parker, Brian Seal, Robert Marks, lll and Earl Johnson serving as pallbearers.
Ashlyn Brooke David infant daughter of Brittany and Chris David of Molus, KY went to be with the Lord on April 19, 2015 at Baptist Health Corbin.
She is preceded in death by great grandparents, Sue Saylor, Luther Morrell David and Roxie May Jenkins.
Besides her parents, she is survived by 2 brothers, Landon and Easton David, maternal grandparents Jesse and Kim Saylor all of Molus, paternal grandparents Terry and Juanita David of Catrons Valley, great grandparents, George Saylor of Molus and Earnest and Vivian Barnes of Pathfork, uncle, Brian Saylor and wife, Destiny, of Molus, aunts, Jacqueline Stewart and husband TJ of VA and Michelle Carney and husband, Dean, of Corbin, great aunts, Sheila Barnes, Susan Griffith, Deanna Farmer, Tommy Saylor, and Sheila Scott, great uncles, Ernie Barnes, George and Kenny Saylor, cousins, Paige and Blake Saylor, Roxie, Skra, Bryliegh, Josh and Jenna Carney, Tim and Connor Griffin, Abby, Emma, Shelbee, and Haelyn Farmer, special cousin and aunt, Tasha Barnes,Virgil Craig, George and Jordan, special cousin, Shilyn, Miranda, Mikey, April, and Lydia.
A private graveside service will be held Friday, April 24 at Saylor Cemetery, Molus, KY with Reverends Lester Tyree and Jeff Craig officiating with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Kimberly S. Clem 45, of Chicago, IL. Formerly of Harlan; passed away March 28, 2015. Kimberly believed in the Christian Faith.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother; Leoma Stroud.
Survivors include her husband; Robert Clem; two sons, Gavin & Brandon of Woodstock, IL also a daughter, Candace & two granddaughters, Mia & Shia of Houston, TX.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Henson & Rich Funeral Home is assisting the Clem Family.
Lena H. Hill, being 100 years, 1 month, and 30 days old, entered into heaven’s gates on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at the Tri-cities Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Jackson Bottom at Cumberland on February 23, 1915 to the late Jason and Margaret Gilliam Jackson. In her earlier years, Lena worked 27 years as an Executive Assistant to the President of the Old Kent Bank in Grand Rapids, MI. She was a faithful member of the Lewis Creek Pentecostal Church who loved her flower gardens.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her late husband, Milton Hill; sisters, Edna Scott, Verna Johnson, and Vera Overby; and brothers, Archie and Paul Jackson.
Lena will be missed by her family; sister, Wilma Sturgill of Spring Hill, FL; brother, Jason Jackson, Jr. of Knoxville, TN; several nieces and nephews; and a host of family of friends.
The family will receive friends in the Chapel of the Tri City Funeral Home, 506 Holly Street, Benham, KY on Friday, April 24, 2015, between 6 – 8 PM. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, April 25, 2015, at 2 PM with the Reverend Ron Oplinger officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Peaceful Acres Cemetery at Hiram, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Katie J. McClure, age 68 of Benham, KY, passed away suddenly at her residence on Monday, April 20, 2015. She was born September 29, 1946 to the late Elvie and Peggy Potter Vanover. Katie spent her life as a homemaker and believed in the Pentecostal faith.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Gary Vanover. She is survived by her children, Angela (Rafael) Cabello, Tony (Brenda) McClure, and Michelle (Ed) Worster of Birmingham, AL; sister, Teresa Gregg of Tennessee; grandchildren, Justin, Michael, Christian, Ryan, Austin, and Briana; and a host of other family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 23, 2015, between 12 – 2 pm in the Chapel of the Tri City Funeral Home, 506 Holly Street, Benham, KY. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm following visitation with Reverend Michael Blair officiating. Interment will be in the Huff Cemetery at Cumberland, KY with family serving as pallbearers.
James Phillip Pate, 79, of Harlan, passed away Monday, April 20, 2015, at his home. Born July 6, 1935 in Harlan County, he had lived here all of his life. James was a retired coal miner, and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served in the Korean Conflict. He believed in the Pentecostal Holiness faith.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda Jean Pate; his parents Orville and Ollie May Hensley Pate; one daughter, Karen Saylor; and a brother, Sonny Pate.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Wilhoit Pate, Fairview; four children, Wayne Pate and wife, Helen, Winchester; Carolyn Nipper and husband, Darrell, Berea; Sharon Grubbs and husband, Larry, Cawood; and James Pate and wife, Valerie, Berea; one step-son, Monroe Douglas and wife, Cathy, Jellico, TN. Also surviving are five sisters, Reba Brock and husband, John, Fairview; Barb Ward and husband, Leroy, Harlan; Jo Ann Hodge, Halls, TN; Lillian Pate, Speedwell, TN; and Betty Hollins and husband, John, London; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 until 8 P.M. at the Evarts Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 23, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home with the Reverend Neal Kelly officiating.
Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens with military rites by the Harlan Honor Guard, who will also serve as pallbearers.

Vernon “Pete” Lewis 72, of Pine Mountain, KY, for the last two years, formerly of Waterford Township, MI. departed this life Sat. April 18, 2015. He was born August 30, 1942 in Lynch, KY to the late Omer & Sue Stewart Lewis. Pete was a retired Robotics Technician from Ford Motor Company with 20 years of service at the Wixom Assembly Plant in Michigan. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army & National Guard having served during the Vietnam War. As a young man, Pete was a avid race car driver having drove on the Toledo Speedway in Ohio and the Flat Rock Speedway in Michigan. He drove along side with such NASCAR legends as Dale Waltrip and Mark Martin. Pete had a love and concern for children and applied that as a Mentor in the Waterford Youth Assistance “Bucket Of Love” program for at risk children at the Waterford Village School in Waterford, MI. He was a Little League Baseball Coach, a member of the Waterford Coaches Association where they won two back to back championships.
Survivors include his wife; Theresa Marie Lewis; son; Michael D. Lewis; step-son, Matthew Jeshurun. Six grandchildren, Caleb, Ava, Charlotte, Cruz & Andreas. Two brothers; David Lewis & wife, Maxine, Gary Lewis & wife Tonya. One sister; Sandy Grimsley & husband, John. And several other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be conducted Sat. April 25, 2015 at 1 PM at Pine Mountain Chapel with the Rev. Ken Smith officiating.
Burial will follow in the Creech Cemetery of Pine Mountain, KY. Military honors to be conducted by the Harlan Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be: Gary Lewis, Colton Lewis, Mark Goetz, Paul Goetz, Michael Lewis, Matt Jeshurun, Dwight Lewis, Mark Lewis, Jimmy Wilder. Honorary Pallbearer is David Lewis. Visitation will be Friday, April 24, 2015 from 5-8 PM at the Henson & Rich Funeral Home.
Frank Delano Napier, age 78, of Corbin formerly of Harlan passed away Sunday, April 19 at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Corbin, KY following a long illness. He was born November 21, 1935 to the late Bradley and Rhoda “Cornette” Turner Napier. He was the owner of the A&A Box Company.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by son, Michael Napier, brothers Marion and Colvey Turner, sisters, Sarah Jane Muncy, Mallie Brock, Bertha Ray, Cam Griffith and Annie Hensley.
Survivors include daughter, Lorri Napier of Corbin, KY grandson, Chase Sides of TN, sister, Cinda Gordon of TX, and a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 23 from 3 to 5PM at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. Funeral will follow at 5PM in the chapel of Mount Pleasant with Rev. Paul Hensley officiating. Burial will be at the Napier Cemetery, Bledsoe, KY. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations for funeral expenses.
