Vivian Nolan, age 80, of Maryville, TN formerly of Harlan, KY passed away April 16, 2015 at the Harlan Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born October 12, 1934 in Harlan, KY to the late Denver and Fannie Middleton Nolan. She was a hard worker and most of the time, worked two jobs. She loved life and was quite the jokester. She loved the Lord and held onto her faith until the end. Vivian was a wonderful mother and will be missed every day.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by daughter, Sandra Kay Powers Stringfield, brothers, Foil, Sheridan, and Hampton Nolan, sisters, Mossie Nolan Gross, Opalee Nolan Napier, and Gladys Nolan Adkins.
Survivors include her children, Kerry Lynn Powers and wife Eva of Lenoir City, TN, Carolyn Elaine Walker and husband, Charles of New Tazewell, TN, and Michael Howard Herron and fiancé, Pam Brewster of Lenoir City, TN, grandchildren, John Ben Powers, April Nicole Powers, Rusty Powers, Clifton Stringfield, Tony Andrew Button, Wendy Alaine Button Jeffers, Mary Lurena Button, Justin Michael Herron, Jacob Dale Herron, and Jordan Elizabeth Herron, brothers, Bill and Melvin Nolan, sisters, Margaret Nolan Cornn, Martha Nolan Younts, Muriel Nolan Lambert and Barbara Nolan Ruffino, 15 great grandchildren and a many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday April 22 from 11AM to 12:30PM at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. Funeral will follow at 12:30PM in the chapel of Mount Pleasant with Bo Cornn officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery with friends and family serving as pallbearers.
Celia Jeanette Eldridge, age 49 of Bean Station, TN and formerly of Cumberland, KY, passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 16, 2015. She was born January 23, 1965 in Harlan and was a homemaker who believed in the Baptist faith.
She is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Layla, and grandparents, Rob and Mossie Lewis.
She will forever missed by her children, Charles Eldridge of Hancock County, TN and Storm (Jason) Sharp of Bean Station, TN; her mother, Doris (Rodney) Hale of London, KY; father, Cillis Young of Wallins; brother, Eddie Young of Cumberland; grandchildren, Wyatt, Lilly, and Daisy Eldridge and Christopher Sharp; and a host of other family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 20, 2015, between 6 – 8 pm in the Chapel of the Tri City Funeral Home, 506 Holly Street, Benham, KY. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, in the Chapel at 1 pm with Roger Jones officiating. Interment will be at the Lewis Cemetery in Gilley, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Melda Williams, age 82 of Cumberland, KY, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at her residence. She was born July 01, 1932 in Hazard, KY to the late Joseph and Cora Williams Deaton. Melda spent her life making a home for her husband and children and was a member of the Cloverlick Freewill Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her children, Joe, Tony, and Rodney Blevins; 10 brothers and sisters; great granddaughter, Rachel Nicole Baker; and great grandson, Landen Dale Dixon.
She will be missed by her husband, Rufus Williams; children, Bernice Sizemore (Randall Lefevers) of Speedwell, TN, Lorene Blevins (Terry Garrison) of London, KY, Teresa (James) Shepherd of Stoney Fork, KY, Kathy (John) Dixon of Statesville, NC, Karen (Mitchell) Gray and Lana (Emmanuel) Salley of Cornettsville, KY, Gary (Cleta) Williams of Slemp, KY, Phyllis (Lonnie) Blevins of Granite Falls, NC, David (Edna) Williams of Albertson, NC and Kitty (Vernon) Anderton of Vicco, KY; brother, Charlie Deaton of Hazard, KY; 26 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 17, 2015, between 6 – 8 pm in the Chapel of the Tri City Funeral Home, 506 Holly Street, Benham, KY. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015, in the Chapel at 1 pm with Glenn Cornett and John Dixon officiating.
Interment will be in the Monte Vista Cemetery in Cumberland, KY with great grandsons serving as pallbearers.
Robert (Bob) Lee Noe, 71 of Cawood passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at the Harlan ARH. Bob was born Jan. 27, 1944 in Harlan, KY to the late Herman Cecil and Mary Elizabeth McKenzie Noe. He was a retired coal miner, former member of the Harlan Co. Rescue Squad, Harlan City Police Chief and Harlan Co. Deputy Sheriff. He was a proud KY Colonel. He attended Cawood Church of God Mountain Assembly.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, H.C. Noe and Frank Asher, Sr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Billie Jackson Noe of Cawood; his children, Susie (Jim) Roddy and George Robert (Doris) Noe all of Cawood; grandchildren, Matthew Roddy and Madison Cornett; he leaves nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends to mourn his passing. He was a loving and outstanding husband, father, and grandfather.
He was a true friend to everyone in and around our community. He loved animals and birds, especially his dog, Lucky. Visitation will be Friday (April 17) from 5 until 7:00 pm at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm in the chapel of Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Franklin Stewart officiating. Graveside services will be 12:00 pm on Saturday (April 18) at the Pope Cemetery at Cawood.
Dora (Dose) Bowling, age 89 of Hiram, KY, was born on November 25, 1925 to the late Roscoe and Pearlie Dixon Lewis and entered heaven’s gates on Sunday, April 12, 2015, at the Harlan ARH Hospital following a brief illness.
Dora spent her life as a homemaker caring for her family and was a member of the Sandhill Baptist Church. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband the late Kermit Bowling. Her siblings, Cecil, Kenneth, and Lester Lewis, Nancy Jenkins and Mabel Eib.
Her memory will be forever cherished by her family; daughters, Barbara Harris of Hiram, KY and Betty Spohn of Lexington, KY; grandson, Chris Harris and wife, Wendy Vermillion, of Wilmington, OH; and a host of other family and friends.
You may visit with the family on Thursday, April 16, 2015, between 5 – 8 pm at the Tri City Funeral Home Chapel, 506 Holly Street, Benham, KY. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 17, 2015, at 2 pm in the Chapel with interment in the Lewis Family Cemetery at Hiram, KY. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
Phillip D. McNabb, 46, Tazewell, TN, formerly of Evarts, KY, passed away Monday, April 13, 2015, at his residence. A graduate of Evarts High School, Phillip was employed by the Claiborne County School System. He was a teacher, basketball coach, and friend. Phillip loved his “Red Devils”.
He is survived by his parents, Richard and Phyllis McNabb of Evarts, KY; a daughter that he loved dearly, Krista McNabb of Lexington, KY; a brother and best friend, Michael McNabb and wife, Becky of Mt. Vernon, KY; two nephews, Aaron McNabb and Blayne Kelley of Mt. Vernon, KY; a niece, Hope Kelley of Mt. Vernon, KY; his girlfriend, Cari-Anne Sowder Oakes of Tazewell, TN; and special friends, Martha Whitworth and John Ball of Tazewell, TN.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 until 8 pm at the Claiborne County High School and at Evarts Funeral Home Thursday from 5 until 8 pm.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 17th, 2015, at 11 am at the Chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home with Reverend Frank Howard and Reverend John Luttrell officiating. Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
