Ruben Shepherd

Ruben Shepherd, 75, of Cumberland went home to be with the lord on Saturday, February 18, 2012 following a brief illness.

He was a native of Leslie Co; a retired coal miner, and believed in the Baptist faith. Ruben was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his parents the late Vester and Minnie Bell Pennington Shepherd, four children; Sharon Hodgson, Marget and Janet Shepherd, and Ruben Shepherd JR; four brothers, Burl, and Marvin Shepherd, Homer Hoskins, and Cecil Whitaker; two sisters Chelcia and Versie Lewis.

He is survived by his wife of 52 ½ years Joyce Creech Shepherd of Cumberland; daughters Rita Cornett and husband Dale of Cumberland, Donna Huff and husband Johnny of Heiskell, TN; Dorothy Shepherd, of Lynch, Rebecca Lewis and husband Ronnie of Lynch, Barbara Rogers and husband Bobby of Benham, Ladonna Nelson of Cumberland, Carol Thomas and husband Joe of Wallins, Jenny Shepherd of Cumberland, Jennifer Hansel and husband Robin of Big Laurel; two sons Ruben Alan Shepherd and wife Brandy of Cumberland, and Donald Neil Shepherd and wife Ashley of Lexington, a brother Alford Shepherd, sisters Marie and Polly Widner; thirteen grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 in the chapel of Tri City Funeral Home from 6-9 pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 1pm with Roger Jones and Mary Bennett officiating. Burial will be held in the West Lawn Cemetery in Cumberland. Ruben Allen Shepherd, Donald Neil Shepherd, James Huff, Johnny Huff JR, Mercury Dean Nelson, Stevie Holbrook, Gregory Adams, Michael Foutch, Johnny Hansel, and Robin Hansel will serve as pallbearers.

 

Tri City Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
