Vera J. Overbey, 94 years of age, passed from this life at the Tri City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on January 24, 2012. Vera was a native of Cumberland and a 21 year member of the Lewis Creek Pentecostal Church. She was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed working in her flowers and garden. She loved cooking and doing for her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jason and Margret Gilliam Jackson; her husband, John Overbey; her son and his wife, William R. Thomas and Barbara McKnight Thomas, of Chicago, Illinois; granddaughter, Barbara Jo Davis, of Chicago, Illinois; two sisters, Edna Scott, of Cumberland, KY, and Verna Johnson, of Florida; one brother, Archie Jackson, of Cumberland, KY.

Vera is survived by two brothers, Paul Jackson, of Cumberland, KY, and Jason Jackson, Jr. and wife, Josephine, of Knoxville, TN; two sisters, Lena H. Hill, of Cumberland, KY and Wilma L. Sturgill, of Spring Hill, FL; three grandchildren, Tanya Thomas, of San Diego, CA, Terri Thomas, of Chicago, IL, William R. Thomas and wife, Sharlene, of Chicago, IL; four great grandchildren, Steph, Victoria and Jacob Thomas and Tyler Davis, all of Chicago, IL; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be at the Tri City Funeral Home on Friday, January 27, 2012, from 6 – 9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at 1 pm with the Reverend Ron Oplinger officiating. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery at Cumberland, KY.

Pallbearers will be Ernie Scott, Juston Banks, Jeremy Williams, William R. Thomas, Jacob Thomas and Tyler Davis.
